Factotum

by LUCAS MUÑOZ MUÑOZ

A site specific installation, designed, crafted and developed for Alcova by lucas muñoz muñoz and his team, is the central Plaza space this year. Following on his sound systems body of work exploration, the space is presided by an exclusive unit that has been locally manufactured and developed for Miami. Full high fidelity tunes and noise beam out of this multi channel device, be ready to dance!

In addition to this, a collection of seating and lounging elements, to be crafted on site during the event days, continues with muñoz´s experimentation with industrial and found elements. Widely explored by the Spanish designer in previous collections like O.F.I.S (Objects From Interstitial Space) or the numerous site specific objects developed on the streets - of China, Korea, Thailand, Netherlands or Spain- he skillfully crafted by transforming locally reclaimed trash into furniture elements.

Lucas' collaboration with Alcova brings in a material and territorial awareness that continues with his studio ethos of Working with Available Sources (W.A.S). A handcrafted experimental and radical approach that they previously applied in interior spaces and objects and that has been worldwide awarded for its conscious use of material, transitional character and its push for sustainability.

Lucas Muñoz Muñoz (1983) works in the field of art and design. He has demonstrated a capacity to revisit these fields of work through a creative commitment that takes what is in situ, puts in value local craft and materials, brings in ex situ knowledge, addresses consumption and pollution and includes the context, with its social and cultural layers, as a departure point. A globally awarded body of work, recognised by Dezeen Award and FRAME magazine as best of the year respectively for sustainability and best use of material, and the Seoul Design Award for Sustainable Life, within others.
