Nice Cock...

“Nice Cock…” Is a presentation of gay surrealist ceramics by Kevin Quale that reimagines 17th century classic Delftware forms through a gay lens. The exhibition is set in the style of a Dutch still life painting where classic symbols like fruit and lobsters are replaced with the symbols of contemporary gay culture like poppers and chicken nuggets. Pieces, like tulipieres, candelabras, and chandeliers, are reimagined with a gay twist. Spouts become hard cocks, a chandelier blows its load to illuminate the scene, and hand painted sperm swirl around vases to form delicate flower patterns. The resulting scene is the aftermath of a debaucherous gay afterparty in a Miami hotel room and it’s a beautiful hot mess.

Kevin Quale is an NYC based artist and designer who creates ceramic pieces that mine the classic formal vernaculars of the past and reinvent them not so subtly through a contemporary gay lens.
