Fragments

by Estudio Material

The FRAGMENTS Milano collection is inspired by the northern Italian landscape. Estudio Material collaborated with Sacco Natural Stone in the Chiavenna Valley to repurpose leftover stone fragments. These unique pieces, rich in history, tell a story of origin and place. Various local stone types are used throughout the series, creating a quiet mosaic of textures and colors that reference their scattered, as-found condition. A fog-like, pure aluminum plane reveals the stone below and ties the floating fragments together, acting as a neutral unifying element. Each piece seamlessly combines simplicity with an authentic expression of materials, creating a conceptual bridge between nature and our living spaces.

FRAGMENTS is an ongoing series that transforms stone yard remnants into sculptural objects. EM collaborates with quarries and fabricators to salvage and design each piece around hand-picked materials, preserving the stone’s raw beauty. The stone fragments are complemented by pristine metal surfaces, creating a soft contrast and continuing the studio’s dialogue between nature and the human-made.

The collection is suitable for indoor and outdoor settings.

Founded in San Francisco, CA, Estudio Material is a creative practice led by Mexico City-born artist and designer Damaso Mayer. Shaped by a contrasting upbringing between farmland and a manufacturing facility, Mayer developed a deep appreciation for both the organic and the industrial—an ethos that defines the studio’s creative approach.

His artistic practice centers on the exploration of often-overlooked materials, with a particular fascination for the raw, the found, and the industrial.

With a focus on sustainability and material exploration, Estudio Material reimagines conventional design by celebrating the beauty and potential of materials in their most authentic forms.
