In Repose

by SOFT WITNESS

Located on the second level of Villa Borsani, Whitney Krieger, founder of Soft Witness, is pleased to present “In Repose”. The scene shares a series of new and limited edition pieces made with Venetian and Florentine artisans that usher visitors into an ethereal sanctuary.

Here, Krieger debuts the Cono Chair and the Tienilo Table, alongside her Liberamente daybed, the Joan Side Table, the Patty Sconce and Pendant, and her Soul Sculpture.

Each piece is laden with poetic symbolism via form, name, and/or materiality. For example, “Joan” and “Patty” are careful homage to family members, Liberamente’s metal frame is a visual reconciliation to past constructs, Tienilo demonstrates relationship dynamics, while Liberamente, the Patty lighting series, and Cono integrate literal references from architectural elements, Etruscan artifact, or forms in nature, respectively.

“In Repose” is a culmination of Krieger's mastery as creative conduit and a reminder of collectible design’s mission: An artist’s reflections transcribed as contributions––lighting, furniture, object heirlooms–– to offer enduring story, beauty, and function within the home.

Based between New York and Florence, Italy, Soft Witness (f. 2023) is a design practice exploring the space where memory meets function through interiors, furniture, lighting, and objects. Crafted and imbued with sentiment, each piece blends practicality with poetic nuance, celebrating objects as the quiet witnesses to our daily lives.

Founded by American designer Whitney Krieger, Soft Witness’ pieces are produced and developed with metalworkers, glassblowers, and skilled artisans across Italy. Krieger's work is informed by reflections and symbolisms, pulling from architectural forms, human nature, individual experiences, and beyond.
