PFS(Press Furniture Series)
by MASAYA KAWAMOTO DESIGN
The PFS (Press Furniture Series) is a furniture collection that incorporates functional and aesthetic elements through press processing applied to cylindrical forms.
While the technique of flattening pipes is not particularly rare, I explored its potential application in furniture design, creating a variety of pieces such as chairs, tables, and lighting fixtures. The linear and simple forms emphasize the distinctive pressed details, making them stand out.
For the coloring process, we use a technique called "salt bath coloring," which forms an oxide film on stainless steel, creating complex and unique patterns with an unparalleled depth of color. This method does not involve any paints or pigments; instead, each piece is handcrafted by artisans to achieve its one-of-a-kind expression.
There are two color variations: Oboro [朧] and Kasumi [霞], each with a unique appearance influenced by the type of stainless steel, plate thickness, and cooling speed.
With its art-like beauty, this chair also features a disassemblable and reassemblable structure, designed with packaging efficiency in mind.
