tale of : Soft Steel
by Basetale
There is some inexplicable joy when you see people feeling what you intended them to feel. We want you to feel captivated by the form, material and juxtaposition of ideas in our furniture pieces. We expect you to feel all the ray of emotions. Intentionally presenting the complexity of things in a simple and joyful way.
In the world where injustice, war and brutality surrounds us we can not separate ourselves from politics, art is serving as form of expression of reality. In the world of "metals" we bring in the softness of threads looping them around cold material and changing its characteristic from unwelcoming to soft and nostalgic.
The intention was to create the contrast between metal and something soft. the warmest thing we remember from childhood is fluffy blankets neatly washed and ironed by granny. These blankets were characterized by a cutout in the middle, surrounded by delicate flower stitching. The steel objects are crafted in a true limited edition format, with each product individually produced and numbered.
We are designers from Tbilisi, Georgia – Iki Antelava and Tinatin Dzirkvadze. With backgrounds in architecture and interior design. Working on Interior and Architectural projects of commercial and residential spaces. For many years we have been preparing our ideas of product design - as an outlet of our artistic vision. We celebrate this approach and the creation of sensual objects.
The world, and particularly Tbilisi, is full of contrasts, and as a team of two, we’ve been influenced by this effect. We have embraced these, allowing our contradictory ideas and visions to complement each other.
