THE BLOOD OF STONES
by nysædition
Ritual of the End of the Day for a Gardener in the Mediterranean. He sets down his tools, sits, removes his shoes, and washes his hands. Pine trees, tarragon, jasmine, salty water—he gardens by the sea and releases into the water the olfactory encounters of the day, which, one by one, express their identities and their territory.
"The blood of stones" is a visual and olfactory territory, a stone garden shower and basin, a poetic and imagined representation of a Mediterranean garden. Mineral and flowing, brutalist and drawn, this work is functional and, through the passage of water, releases a fragrance. The entire piece consists of a sculpted slab and its sink, from which the overhead shower extends. Beside it, a stone stool «extracted» from the base, its imprint still visible in the North-East corner of the piece.
Charles Guerlain is an artist-gardener, and Marion Saxod is an artist-designer.
Together, they founded nysædition, a creative and research workshop-laboratory focused on design, functional art, and olfactory experiences, where they create unique gardens, scenographies, and, most notably, pieces designed for the garden.
The meeting of these two complementary paths—one deeply rooted in earth and plant life, the other in space, composition, and technicality—brings to life multiple works and manufacturing processes, all starting with natural materials and scents.
