Ciénaga Vidrio
by ERM Studio
Ciénaga Vidrio is the natural continuation of the Ciénaga collection — a material expansion that translates the experimental principles of cast aluminum into the realm of glass. Originating from a process-driven exploration at ERM Studio, Ciénaga was born from the desire to push the boundaries of material behavior and form. In that first series, molten aluminum was poured over sand — a fully recycled material — to create pieces defined by gravity, heat, and texture.
Building on that same spirit of experimentation, Ciénaga Vidrio explores glass pouring through the “ladling” technique, a controlled yet intuitive process that allows each piece to capture unique, unrepeatable forms.
The word ciénaga refers to a wetland ecosystem, typically characterized by shallow water, dense vegetation, and rich biodiversity. These wetlands are an essential part of the Miami, Florida landscape, connecting the city to its natural environment and reminding us of the delicate balance between nature and human intervention. By naming the series Ciénaga Vidrio, ERM Studio draws a parallel between the fluidity, light, and organic forms of the glass pieces and the dynamic, living landscapes of the region.
Like its predecessor, this series preserves the essence of the original dialogue between matter, process, and form — now revealed through transparency, luminosity, and fluidity. Presenting Ciénaga Vidrio at Alcova Miami 2025 allows this exploration of material and nature to resonate within a space that celebrates design, innovation, and the interplay between art, craft, and context.
ERM Studio is a Mexican design studio that seeks to explore the limitations of processes and materials in order to find, question, and explore the error, and through this study, generate proposals that are both aesthetic and functional.
ERM Studio is fueled by curiosity, new technologies, and artisanal processes for all its proposals. Similarly, it aims to build a creative community, involving everyone with the initiative to explore, collaborate, and learn.
