SCULPTING SPACES: WHERE DESIGN MEETS TIMELESS TRAVERTINE
by GIANSANTI HOME X GLORIA MELIDONI
"Sculpting Spaces: Where Design Meets Timeless Travertine" is a dialogue between craftsmanship and emotion - a reflection on how form, material, and rhythm shape the spaces we inhabit. The installation brings together Giansanti Home, born from generations of travertine mastery, and artist Gloria Melidoni, whose practice reflects on memory, atmosphere, and the subtle narratives found in everyday spaces.
At its core lies a conversation between permanence and transformation. Travertine, carved with precision and care, embodies the quiet strength of nature and time. In contrast, Melidoni's painterly gestures introduce fluidity - a human trace that softens and complements the stone's solidity.
The project invites viewers to consider how matter and movement coexist: how stone, though ancient and enduring, can evoke lightness and intimacy when shaped with intention. Giansanti Home's sculptural objects - stools, vases, and surfaces born from Roman quarries - provide the foundation, while Melidoni's artistic interventions activate the space with color, atmosphere, and emotional resonance.
"Sculpting Spaces" proposes an encounter rather than a display - a space where design becomes contemplative and craftsmanship transforms into language. It celebrates the meeting of two disciplines united by the same pursuit: to give form to feeling, and to let material speak beyond its surface.
Presented at Alcova Miami, this collaboration honors the legacy of Italian artistry while exploring new possibilities for travertine in contemporary living - where heritage meets expression, and stone carries meaning beyond its materiality.
Giansanti Home is born from the legacy of Travertini Giansanti, a family-owned quarry that has extracted and shaped Roman travertine outside Rome since 1968. For over fifty years, the company has dedicated itself to mastering this ancient Italian stone - a heritage now reimagined in a contemporary home collection that brings the natural character of travertine into modern living. Gloria Melidoni is an Italian artist whose work explores the relationship between structure and emotion through color, gesture, and atmosphere. Based between Washington, D.C., and Rome, her practice examines how space holds memory and how surfaces can transform into emotional experience, creating compositions that invite reflection and stillness.
