The Garden Game
by Haworth x Patricia Urquiola
At Alcova Miami 2025, set within the historic River Inn, Haworth and Patricia Urquiola create a soft, open space for gathering and play. The installation transforms the oval courtyard’s turf into a playground, where a grid painted in Alcova’s iconic pink becomes an open invitation to move, meet, and play.
Rietveld’s Utrecht Outdoor armchair for Cassina and Cappellini’s Thinking Man Lido chair set the scene. Each piece occupies its own square within the grid, remaining quiet, almost hieratic presences, yet their positions can change for an evening cocktail or for one of the garden conversations organized by Alcova.
Meanwhile, Haworth’s Cardigan Lounge chairs stay on the sidelines as cheerful supporters, reinforcing the sense of rhythm and community that defines the space.
Through the simple use of a painted check matrix, the installation draws on the language of American sports and graphic systems, transforming the courtyard into a playful collective space.
It’s not a game to win, but one to join.
