Boredom in Paradise
by Laura Dominici x Basil Schu
In view of the upheaval in the world of work, the abandoned administration building points prophetically to the future. Laura Dominici and Basil Schu install their 'Lazy Swim' series as a dystopian attempt at recreational reuse – 'Boredom in Paradise'.
The series is an artistic exploration of places of longing, dream worlds and leisure culture. Drawing on the forms and furnishings of pool landscapes, it uses these as its vocabulary. In doing so, it reveals the Proustian nature of objects. Stacks of folded towels 'Towel Stools', steel elements and swimming aids will be surrounding the series newest member 'Diving Board'.
Vienna-based duo Laura Dominici and Basil Schu started collaborating in 2024, focusing on trivial objects that seem like minor characters in a scene – ladders, towels, tiles or pool noodles – but have the power to evoke memories, disrupt reality, and transport viewers elsewhere. These elements form the vocabulary of their work.
