It must have been a nightmare

by FRENCH PLACE,

"Playgrounds are temporary worlds within the ordinary world. Inside it, a special order reigns” Johan Huizinga writes. Continuing an ongoing exploration of the playground as a rehearsal space for power, this installation brings together recurring figures from recent works, where children’s artifacts are reimagined—a rocking swan, a horse swing, and a pair of gargoyles suspended from a tree and positioned at its base. Situated at the slippery threshold between the playful and the perverse, this unhinged fantasy explores how authority is internalized not only through monumentality, but through fantasy, attachment, and play.
