PET Lamp

by PET Lamp x Alvaro Catalán de Ocón

While PET Lamp Ibisi draws from Rwanda's Uruhindu basketry tradition, crafted with local artisans using bamboo, papyrus, and recycled PET bottle strips. The result is elongated, totemic lamps that blend ancestral technique with sustainable innovation.

PET Lamp Gurunsi is inspired by the adobe architecture of Frafra family compounds in northern Ghana, woven by local master weavers. Its large-format structure casts an intricate play of light and shadow, while its foldable design makes it easy to transport and assemble for the global market.

Álvaro Catalán de Ocón (Madrid, 1975), founder of PET Lamp — a project turning recycled plastic bottles into handcrafted luminaires with artisan communities worldwide. Trained at IED Milan and Central Saint Martins London, winner of Spain's National Design Award 2023. His work is held at the Centre Pompidou, V&A, and M+ Hong Kong amongst others.
