In a context shaped by fragmented traditions, rapid industrialisation, and unstable norms, contemporary Chinese material practices rarely follow linear innovation. Many so-called “new materials” remain transitional—surfaces without fixed standards and finishes still open to change. Their meaning emerges through testing, use, and repeated encounters between body and material.
SKIN 100&1, curated by Every Archive, brings together contemporary Chinese designers, artists, and studios to explore these evolving surface conditions through process, transformation, and material studies. Featuring works by ciireals, Doucement Design Studio, qīqíqǐqì studio, Jing Hsu, Bentu-Guaiwu, Linyu Mei, Fan Wenxuan, ProcessJournal, Keyi Zhang, and Weixi Kuang, Junpeng Liang & Yi Qian.
Every Archive approaches contemporary cultural landscapes through objects and material practices in various forms. For SKIN 100&1, the project collaborates with ciireals, Doucement Design Studio, qīqíqǐqì studio, Jing Hsu, Bentu-Guaiwu, Linyu Mei, Fan Wenxuan, ProcessJournal, Keyi Zhang, and Weixi Kuang, Junpeng Liang & Yi Qian to explore “skin” in a contemporary Chinese context.
