Within the Ruins of Aesthetics & Function

by studio DO (Dana Seachuga & Octave Vandeweghe)

During Alcova at Milan Design Week, Studio DO presents a series of domestic objects and installations in which Belgian, Italian, and international stones meet. Belgian heritage stones — Rouge Belge, Porphyry cobblestone, Bluestone — enter into dialogue with Italy’s iconic marble tradition. Displayed on a buffet table or vertical totem, carefully composed landscapes of objects unfold, where tactility, colour, and history converge. The works highlight Studio DO’s artistic research into stone as cultural memory and demonstrate how local materials can resonate within a contemporary, international context.

Driven by a deep affection for the craft of stonecutting, we explore the material and cultural role of (gem)stones within the realm of functional objects. While aiming to carefully balance between aspects such as heritage, function &the potentiality of a found raw matter.
