On the Soft Edge
by Jane Wright & Jesse Butterfield
Bringing together Jane’s reimagined lace works and Jesse’s sculptural steel pieces, On the Soft Edge, celebrates the tension between utility and ornamentation. Set as a Sejour, the installation assembles furnishings that engage and subvert archetypes of domesticity, gendered objects and form. Questioning material historicity the space is strewn with a series of collaborations that bring the designer's process and references into an unlikely dialogue, where contemporary Flanders lace meets monolith iron forms. Here lamps, chairs, and curtains require a second look, hovering between rigidity and impermanence.
Jane and Jesse are London-based designers whose practice is grounded in close engagement with materials as a way to question how objects are made, behave, and relate to larger systems. Training in both product and textiles, Jane Wright challenges boundaries of these disciplines, seeking unexpected combinations of materials, ideas, and processes. Jesse Butterfield engages with hands-on-making as both method and inquiry, his projects often unfold through the dynamics of material behavior, embracing unpredictability as a site of knowledge.
